About

Inge van Drie

Training:
My training as an artist started in 1986 in Arnhem at Artez, University of the Arts. After I finished my first year I attended the Photo Academy in Amsterdam. I eventually graduated as a Textile Designer in Dundee, Scotland at Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee University with a Bachelor of Design (Bdes).

Work experience:
As a textile designer, I worked at Glenalmond Tweed Company in the tweed industry in Scotland. Tweed is a sustainable product that is still made locally in the Hebrides. My work and travels through Scotland have allowed me to develop my passion for wildlife and botanical art. I trained at the Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) and obtained a certificate in Botanical Illustration. I am a (student) member of the SBA Society of Botanical Artists in London: soc-botanical-artists.org.

Development:
I translate my passion for nature and botanical art by fully delving into the origin and development of a plant or flower and convey this by doing a lot of research in my sketchbook while saving images by photographing and drying parts of the plant. The end result is a botanical illustration with all this information.

Occasionally I paint birds and other animals, mainly wildlife. It is a challenge to get fur and feathers as soft as possible on paper or pastel mat. I use watercolor and pastel, but also pencil. As an artist I am always developing my skills. I closely follow National Geographic, the David Shepherd Foundation and the Shirley Sherwood foundation to keep up with the world of wildlife and botanical art.

Qualifications:
RBGE Certificate in botanical illustration with distinction
London Art College Botanical Coloured Pencils Diploma with distinction
Dundee University Textile Design Bdes with distinction

I took part in my first group exhibition at Galerie Paterswolde, galeriepaterswolde.nl. In 2024 two of my pieces feature in the student section of Plantae 2024, www.soc-botanical-artists.org/exhibitions/plantae-2024
